Alaska Wildlife Cruise Adventure
If there is one guarantee when visiting south central Alaska it is that you will see wildlife - and a lot of it. The wildlife of Alaska is unlike anywhere else in North America in its breadth and abundance. You'll want to have a camera with you and keep a sharp eye as you never know when a Humpback may breach off our side or a Grizzly may sulk up the shore.
Marine Life
Whale watching is a favorite pastime of passengers aboard the Dream Catcher. Many species of whale can be found throughout the year in Alaska. Humpback Whales spend their winters in Hawaii and summers in Alaska and are definitely a crowd pleaser. They are naturally inquisitive animals and will frequently approach our vessel and linger, sometimes swimming along with us for great distances. Humpback whales are also known for their spectacular breaches and ingenious method of bubble net feeding. Orca (Killer) and Gray Whales are also common in the area, as are Dall Porpoise.
Whales aren't the only wildlife we'll see aboard an Alaska small boat cruise. Harbor Seals and Sea Lions are often seen along the rocky shores of Prince William Sound and the Gulf of Alaska and Sea Otters are common throughout south central Alaska.
Birding
Avid birders have long known that Alaska has one of the most diverse collection of bird species in any place on earth. Some of the most rare and difficult to find birds in the world pass through Alaska seasonally during their migration. In addition, shorebirds of all types follow food sources across the state and can number in the millions at peak times and places.
Even if you're not a birder yourself, you'll appreciate the majestic Bald Eagles soaring overhead. Watching these magnificent creatures dive bomb unsuspecting salmon and pluck them from the water is something you'll never forget.
Wildlife on Land
The captain and crew always have an eye on the shorelines we cruise by, as sightings of wildlife along the beaches are very common. The Dream Catcher has lots of places from which to view the wildlife, both on deck and inside the boat.
Brown and Black Bear sightings from the deck are common, as bears are drawn to open beaches and the fish that swim along them. Seeing these generally gentle creatures meandering the shoreline is always a treat. Other common sightings include moose, Sitka Black-tailed Deer and sheep.
The abundance of Alaska’s wildlife is astonishing - from the Polar Bears of the far north to Humpback Whales migrating from Hawaii, the rich wildlife of Alaska’s wilderness is one of the states’ biggest draws. If it is wildlife you’re interested in, then there is no better way to see the state then aboard a small boat with crew that know the area. The Dream Catcher is perfect for providing just such an adventure.

"We saw this speck in the brush and as we got closer we saw it was actually an adult black bear. We were really excited to see it but were also glad it was from the safety of the boat's deck."
